This spot is a well-known photography location along a long, sweeping curve where the Hokuriku Shinkansen runs for several kilometers without any visual obstructions like tall buildings. You can watch trains appear from distant tunnels and approach up close, making it ideal for dynamic train shots.
📝 Shooting Report
I’ve included some photos captured in the past of the Hokuriku Shinkansen, focusing on images taken around the time this high-speed line first opened.
At the top of the article is a shot of a W7 series Shinkansen passing through the famous “Saku Curve.” This particular image was taken during my third photography trip to this location. On my first attempt, I couldn’t reach the spot; on the second, a local kindly guided me there despite terrible weather conditions.
Below is an example from that journey—a snowy scene at Saku Curve where, even in harsh wind and snow, the Shinkansen carved through the landscape. Seeing how resilient local residents are in such weather was surprising.
After the long struggle, the third visit finally produced the clean, sweeping Shinkansen shots I hoped for. The graceful arc of the high-speed train against the peaceful countryside emphasized not just speed, but beauty.
Although train frequency here isn’t high, I captured enough quality shots to make the journey worthwhile. Between the long travel time (about 5 hours one way) and the effort involved, the satisfaction at the end was well worth it.
